Service description
SIG Penrose Steps is an accommodation assessment and support service for Luton clients, who are admitted to mental health wards in Luton. The service aims to ensure that when clients are discharged from hospital, they have suitable accommodation.
STEPS is fully funded by the Bedfordshire & Luton Community Foundation (BLCF) Community Investment Fund.
The service is intended for:
- Patients on mental health wards; four wards in Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Townsend Court (Houghton Regis) and Oakley Court (Leagrave).
- Male and female aged 18+
- Those with a housing need
STEPS is part of the Mental Health and Housing Pathway between Luton Borough Council (LBC) and East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), and also works closely with Central Beds and Bedford Borough Local Authorities. The service is designed to address the problems experienced by patients whose discharge is delayed for non-clinical reasons, or who are discharged from hospital to no fixed abode or unsuitable accommodation.
