Celebrating 10 Years with Emmeline at SIG

At SIG, we celebrate the unwavering dedication, passion, and impact of our team members who bring positive change to the lives of those we support. As part of our 10th-anniversary celebrations, we’re thrilled to spotlight Emmeline Irvine, Head of Services for Luton, Bedford, and Havering.

Starting her journey with us as a Synergy Team Leader, Emmeline has risen through the ranks with determination, innovation, and an unyielding commitment to our mission. Join us as she reflects on her decade-long journey, full of challenges, growth, and incredible achievements.

What was your first role at SIG?
“I was working with another charity in Luton when Penrose took over the Floating Support contracts, and I transitioned to join the team. I remember my first meetings with Penrose in 2012—I was nervous about leaving the safety of my previous charity after 10 years. But 12 years later, I’m still here, so it must have been the right decision!”

Do you remember your first day?
Vaguely! I was one of three Team Leaders brought in to manage the Synergy Luton service. Coming from various organizations in Luton, we were all in the same boat! It was an exciting time—meeting new colleagues and bonding quickly as the first Penrose team outside London. Together, we built a strong, united foundation.”

How has your role evolved over the years?
“My journey at SIG Penrose has been one of continuous growth, with incredible support to pursue my passions. Starting as a Synergy Team Leader, I oversaw the Triage & Assessment team, tapping into my mental health experience.

Over time, I embraced opportunities to develop partnerships, create impactful projects, and address service gaps. I’ve worn many hats, from Service Manager to Business & Enterprise Manager, to Head of Services for Luton, Bedfordshire, and beyond. Each role has challenged me, but with mentorship, collaboration, and a shared vision, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined.”

What has been your biggest success?
“There are so many! From the enduring success of the Luton & Beds services to securing funding for life-changing initiatives, to being part of a team that wrote and won tenders. I’ve had the honour of coaching and celebrating with passionate colleagues, each moment a testament to what we can achieve together.”

What’s your favourite part of the job?
“The people. The trust, openness, and integrity within my teams and SIG as a whole, make it a joy to work here. I’ve been fortunate to explore my skills and passions in an environment that aligns with my values. As long as I’m learning, growing, and surrounded by such authenticity, I know I’m in the right place.”

What’s your favourite memory?
“How can I choose just one? The Synergy Luton 10th anniversary celebration, guest lecturing, Buckingham Palace visits, heartfelt thanks from participants, team awards, and even the slightly hazardous Tug-o-War on Sports Day all stand out.

But truly, it’s the journey—the incredible people I’ve met along the way and the lessons learned—that I cherish most. Each connection has shaped my growth, and for that, I am endlessly grateful.”

What’s something people may not know about you?
“Despite my confident exterior, I’ve struggled with anxiety for years. I’m a huge advocate for mental wellness, finding peace in walking, Pilates, Yoga, and meditation. I’m proud to work for an organization that prioritizes staff wellbeing and supports open conversations about mental health.”

What’s your vision for SIG’s future?
“I hope SIG continues to grow, extending its reach while staying true to its innovative, authentic mission. Keeping the wellbeing of staff, residents, and participants at the core of everything we do will always be our guiding light.”

What advice would you give to new SIG team members?
“Be a sponge! Learn from the incredible talent around you—the successes and the challenges. Be creative, authentic, and build strong relationships with trusted colleagues. Your journey here can be as transformative as you make it.”

Thank you, Emmeline, for your extraordinary contributions to SIG and the lives you’ve touched along the way. Your leadership, vision, and compassion continue to inspire us all!
