At SIG HerStory House, every woman’s journey is a testament to strength and transformation. In this interview, one resident shares her experiences of rebuilding life after trauma, finding confidence, and embracing second chances. Her reflections highlight the power of community, guidance, and hope in shaping a future filled with possibility.
What impact do you hope your input at the project has in shaping services for other women?
I hope that they can see the participation I’ve done and understand that when you do come out of prison, you can come out and do well in the community. There’s a second chance, and it can be accomplished with the right mindset.
How has Herstory House supported you in rebuilding your life after trauma, and what has been most helpful in that journey?
The service has supported me on many occasions, like attending appointments, assisting with my emotional and mental struggls by offering their guidance and advice. Most importantly, they have supported me with my confidence which I can see improving daily.
What does surrounding yourself with others in this environment mean to you, and how has it contributed to your personal growth?
To me, this means that there is genuine support and guidance offered and given when needed, which is so helpful when putting different situations into perspective, allowing me the space to work on myself at my own pace.
Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the future, and how has HerStory House helped you move closer to the goals?
In the future, I want to be able to successfully complete the move on process and have my own place as well as a bit further in the future, start working. Herstory House has helped me with these goals by encouraging me to focus on settling myself in first, then begin working towards the goals I want to achieve, as well as providing me with the right essentials and guidance to help achieve these goals.
Is there anything that makes living here feel easier or more comfortable to you?
Knowing that there’s supportive staff daily around to be there for me in times of need.
