What brought you to SIG?
“My journey with SIG began in 2012 when I was TUPE’d over after Penrose took over the Floating Support Service contract in Luton. It wasn’t just a change in workplace—it was the start of an incredible chapter in my career.”
Do you remember your first day?
“Absolutely! My first day at Penrose Synergy in Luton is a memory I cherish. I actually went to the wrong building—only to find another new colleague who had made the same mistake! When we finally arrived at Victoria House, I felt a wave of relief seeing familiar faces from my previous team. There was a buzz of excitement and nervous energy in the air as we started this new journey together. The warm welcome from my new team made all the difference—they were supportive, kind, and made me feel at home right away.”
How has your role evolved over the years?
“My career at SIG has been a journey of growth. I started as a part-time support worker before moving into a full-time role. In 2018, I was thrilled to be promoted to Deputy Manager, where I gained invaluable leadership experience. After a brief time exploring other opportunities, I returned to SIG in August 2023—first as Deputy Manager at Synergy Brent and then, in December, as Service Manager for Penrose Synergy. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how much I’ve grown alongside this organisation.”
What has been your greatest achievement?
“My biggest accomplishment has been stepping into a leadership role and fostering a strong, dynamic team. Seeing how we’ve strengthened service delivery and built a supportive environment for both staff and participants is something I’m truly proud of.”
What do you love most about your job?
“I love working closely with my team, guiding and supporting them to create the best outcomes for the people we serve. Witnessing participants grow, regain their independence, and transform their lives is the most rewarding part of what I do.”
What’s your favourite memory from the past 10 years?
“There are so many moments to choose from! But if I had to pick, I’d say our Christmas celebrations. Every year, they bring our team closer, remind us of how far we’ve come, and give us a chance to enjoy each other’s company outside of work.”
What’s something people may not know about you?
“I’m deeply passionate about nature and the environment! Just recently, I joined an initiative that successfully planted over 10,000 trees across 8.5 acres of land in Uganda. Contributing to something bigger than myself has been a deeply fulfilling experience.”
Where do you see SIG in the next 10 years?
“I hope to see SIG expand further, reaching even more communities in Bedfordshire and beyond. The services we provide are life-changing, and I believe they should be accessible to more people across the country.”
What advice would you give to someone joining SIG?
“Starting at SIG is both exciting and full of opportunities. My advice? Be open to learning, embrace challenges, build meaningful relationships, and, most importantly, never forget to take care of yourself. The work we do is powerful, but so is the need for self-care and balance!”
Norah’s journey is a testament to the impact of dedication, resilience, and passion. From her first day to stepping into a leadership role, she has embraced every challenge and opportunity with grace. Her story reflects the very heart of SIG—empowering people, building strong teams, and changing lives.
Thank you Norah! Here’s to more than 10 incredible years – and many more to come!
