Strengthening Social Value Through Volunteering

SIG is enhancing its volunteering framework to increase the social value we deliver. We are expanding and professionalising our volunteering offer, creating high-quality opportunities for individuals and communities, and partner organisations to help keep people out of prison, out of hospital, and off the streets.

We invite our partners to work with us in co-designing volunteer roles, delivering specialist training, and offering opportunities for volunteer involvement. By joining forces in this way, we can directly shape high-impact volunteering pathways that deliver shared outcomes and strengthen local care ecosystems. Expanding possibilities for meaningful community participation enriches the volunteer experience and deepens cross-sector collaboration, which, in turn, drives our vision to create healthier, safer, and more inclusive communities.

We will relaunch volunteering at SIG in June 2026 with a range of new roles. This will bring additional activities, fresh perspectives, and valuable lived experience to our support. Volunteers will play a vital role in enriching service resident and participant experiences. They will also strengthen community connections and support the development of transferable skills. This is especially important for those seeking employment or a career in the care sector, as it adds social value beyond statutory provision. We will keep our partners and stakeholders updated on the relaunch and key milestones, enabling them to plan and align their own activities with our enhanced volunteering programme.

Our volunteering approach is rooted in SIG’s Theory of Change, helping to break down stigma, giving people a meaningful stake in society, and supporting individuals in growing, connecting, and contributing in ways that shape their long-term well-being. We invite commissioners and partners to connect with us to maximise the benefits of our enhanced volunteering framework and explore opportunities that align with your interests.

If you’d like to discuss opportunities to get involved, you can contact our National Volunteer Manager at volunteering@socialinterestgroup.org.uk. Join us to strengthen further the communities we serve.
