SIG Penrose Enfield Grand Opening

Our Penrose Enfield service offers 24-hour supported housing support for adults aged 18 to 65 with enduring mental health illness. It comprises a rehabilitation unit and step-down service, which are geared towards recovery and independence.

The service started operations at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020, but at that time we could not open our doors to the wider community.

On June 24th, we welcomed our Enfield local authority partners, SIG colleagues and board members, parents and guardians, other family members, relatives and friends to the service to showcase our journey and the artistic skills of our Participants and Residents. The progress of the Participants and Residents was evidenced in the Community Cabin where they displayed their artwork for all to see.

There was great turn out of people, and we had some positive feedback from our guests and most importantly our Participants and Residents, one of whom said: “I enjoyed the food, especially the jollof rice, and next time I will cook our national dish.”

An Enfield commissioner said: “Thank you for organising and inviting Enfield colleagues to the Penrose open day. It was a lovely event, and it was good to see the positive changes that have taken place over the last two years. I am sure there will be plenty more to come. Please pass on my thanks to your staff, colleagues and residents for hosting and being so welcoming.”

There were lots of different foods, music played continuously in the background (which led to dance moves being displayed by Residents, Participants and staff), and most importantly people socialised in the spacious back garden.

The occasion also afforded us the opportunity to put faces to those we have had virtual meetings with during the pandemic.

The staff were exceptional as each made their mark in different ways right from the planning of the event up to execution.

We would like to acknowledge the part that each person played in helping us to open our doors to our various guests.

The Service Manager Uzondu-Roy Owoh said: “We are immensely grateful to those who were able to attend the event to see how well we have fared in the last 2 years. I personally look forward to celebrating more and consolidating on our achievements with each Resident & Participant’s personalised care in the years to come. It was great for Participants and Residents to engage with family, friends and professionals in an informal way. Some of them are not used to socialising but came out and joined the fun. It was great to see everyone in a good mood and enjoying the moment without having ‘formal’ conversations.”

Congratulations to all at Enfield for a successful event!
