Job overview

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for someone with a strong commitment to promoting peer mentoring and volunteering to kick-start our peer mentoring programme within our London Mental Health services. We are a forward looking charity providing support for people with mental health problems and complex needs. As a Peer Mentor and Volunteer Manager, you could join us to lead our engagement in Health Education England’s innovative peer training programme.

Reporting directly into the Director of Innovation and Impact and working as part of our Best Practice Team, you will be responsible for leading the rollout and implementation of our peer mentoring programme, including the recruitment and selection of peer mentors; their ongoing supervision and development. You will also recruit and support 20 participants from our Mental Health services across London over the coming year and develop our Volunteer Strategy to increase opportunities to participate in our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Devising a programme of events and activities tailored to promoting peer mentoring including succession planning to ensure a sustainable approach to our peer mentoring offer
  • Take the lead in creating a positive and productive working environment, to improve and maintain the well-being of peer mentors and volunteers as well as the people we support within a psychologically informed environment
  • Participate in the selection and induction of new mentors and volunteers to ensure that they are aware of their duties and the policies, procedures, and values of SIG
  • Responsible for ensuring that all peer mentors and volunteers have appropriate personal development plans (including training) and are effectively supported to achieve them by giving them clear expectations and direction
  • Provide high quality leadership, coaching, support and supervision to all peer mentors and volunteers
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining service plans such as Business Continuity Plans and Annual Service Plans
  • Developing relationships with local volunteer bureaus and networks to promote our peer mentoring & volunteering programme

Experienced Required:

  • Experience of working directly with Participants and Residents in an asset-based way, promoting inclusivity and working with divers
  • Project management experience

  • Strong leadership and people management skills – ability to inspire and motivate others building a cohesive team
  • Exceptional management skills, experienced in leading multi-disciplinary, multi-site teams
  • Proven experience of strategic and business planning
  • Experience of developing and maintaining management information systems
  • Extensive knowledge of effective ways of working with vulnerable adults who have chaotic lifestyles and challenge services

This role is available initially on a 12 months fixed term contract.
