Job overview

We are looking for a talented, passionate and ambitious Night Support Coach to join SIG Penrose’s Criminal Justice division for the mobilisation and delivery of a flagship new service.

The residential service will be supporting men assessed as high-risk and/or with complex needs to resettle back into the community following release from prison. Working closely in partnership with The Probation Service (TPS), the service will offer intensive levels of support and supervision to provide a vital bridge between prison and the community, reduce reoffending and protect the public.

Staffed 24 hours per day, the service will be rooted in the principles of psychologically-informed and enabling environments; providing a safe, supported space for residents to be engaged, encouraged, constructively challenged, motivated and supported towards lasting change. It will be a hive of meaningful activity with our team and partner agencies delivering a comprehensive range of interventions, both 1-1 and groups, addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

We will adopt a strength-based approach, recognising that everyone has the capacity to change with the right support around them; developing our residents’ skills, self-confidence and resilience to prepare them for living independently.

Due to the history of the client group, robust risk management and strong partnership working protocols will be essential. Our team will work very closely with TPS Probation Practitioners and other key community agencies to keep residents, staff and the public safe. When necessary we will need to support formal enforcement proceedings, including recalls to prison.

As a Night Support Coach you will provide waking night support to residents:

  • To support rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders back into the community.
  • To mentor and develop trusting relationships with residents to support resettlement.
  • To motivate and inspire residents to engage in purposeful activity, identify goals and achieve their potential.
  • To proactively manage your caseload and provide robust risk management with The Probation Service (TPS) and other partners, to minimise risk.
  • To identify pathways, provide support and appropriate interventions to enable successful resettlement for service users in both group and one to one setting.

Night Support Worker / Coaches will typically work 12.5 hour shifts per day. 3 days on, 4 days off across Monday to Sunday on a weekly rota basis over the following period:

  • Night team hours: 8:30pm – 10am

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete Assessments
  • Contribute to delivery of the sentence plan in collaboration with The Probation Service (TPS), Police and other external stakeholders.
  • Carry out regular one to one support work sessions with residents to include SMART goal setting.
  • Co-facilitate and deliver group programs where required.
  • Actively engage with clients and provide opportunities to do so, utilising the ‘every contact matter’s approach.
  • Working with residents to develop and deliver a programme of Purposeful Activities and interventions, both in a one to one and group settings
  • Support engagement with probation and other statutory services

Skills Required:

  • Experience of coordinating and/or delivering activities and interventions to vulnerable people
  • Experience of working with adults who have complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management
  • Experience of quality and service improvement evaluation
  • Knowledge of Psychologically Informed Environment & EE Frameworks
  • Able to engage with vulnerable people and work effectively in highly distressing and challenging circumstances
  • Must be able to communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
  • Able to manage emotionally challenging and distressing situations with a potentially volatile service user group
