We are looking to recruit a Family Residential Support Worker to join our dynamic team at Bridge House, based in Luton, Bedfordshire to provide proactive support to service users and work with the families to gain the valuable skills required to end the cycle of homelessness and enable future independently sustained living.

Bridge House consist of 7 accommodation units and provides a lifeline to:

  • Expectant mothers
  • Mothers with up to two children aged under 10
  • Single women aiming to have guardianship of their children.

As the Family Residential Support Worker, you will provide support in a flexible, individualised approach so that families can progress in a way that suits both parent and child’s needs whilst in a safe and stable environment. To succeed in this role, you must be able to demonstrate your understanding of the housing and social needs of this client group, therefore if you are passionate about improving the lives of people we support, then we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assessing potential residents to understand their desired outcomes, asses compatibility and risks to other existing residents and identify potential risks which might require mitigation and planning for, before offering a place
  • Plan and co-ordinate with the residents their individual support and resettlement packages, liaising with agreed agencies and health and care professionals to ensure successful delivery of the plan
  • Liaise with referral agencies in regards to multi-disciplinary approaches, either pre-referral or once engaged with the service
  • Provide and arrange various external advice, advocacy and information in order for residents not to become dependent on the service
  • To assist the Service Manager in managing health & safety, maintenance, rent/charges collection, arrears and void control
  • Complete regular building and room checks and support with maintaining the property
  • To complete reports (either electronically or written), including residents support plans, notes and other documentation for managers, members of the management board and other agencies
  • Constantly ensure that the resident has the tools and confidence to control and choose their own goals and the steps to be taken, ensuring the resident has access to appropriate methodologies and inventions to encourage and support their engagement and progress towards positive move on

Skills Required:

  • Appropriate professional qualification: NVQ / Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care / Mental Health / Housing or professional equivalent
  • Experience of working with individuals who may have mental health issues/ personality disorders/ forensic mental health backgrounds / substance misuse / offenders and whose chaotic lives challenge service provision
  • Experience in working with vulnerable children and families in a support capacity and able to demonstrate a knowledge of interventions which can support children and families
  • Practical experience of drafting and agreeing support plans and providing appropriate interventions for service user
  • Proven evidence and experience of successful reintegration of service users into the community
  • Understanding and practical application of key legislation regarding social care, housing and mental health
  • Excellent and proven ability to form effective positive and motivational relationships
  • Able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with service users external agencies
