Job overview

We are currently looking for a highly capable and motivated Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join our Aspinden Care Home based in Bermondsey, South East London to help carry out the day to day running of a busy 25 bed residential service to people with complex needs and/or those with long term alcohol addiction.

The service has a national remit and has accommodation for 25 people, male and female, who may have complex or chronic physical or mental health care needs and require 24/7 care and support.

As a Registered General Nurse, you will work as part of the medical team to empower our patients to gain the best life chances during and after their stay at Aspinden Care Home by providing effective clinical support to service and non-clinical staff in order to achieve full contact and regulatory compliance, as well as working in conjunction with Care Coordinators and GP's to manage the clinical aspect of the physical and mental health of the residents.

The role would work in partnership with our in-house psycho-social team to ensure that each individual is facilitated to undergo this integral part of their recovery journey in their own unique way to the best of their ability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership to staff, ensuring that care and support staff are competent to undertake clinical observations and administer medication
  • Monitor care plans and review, ensuring that all clinical and health issues are dealt with appropriately and reflect clients’ needs and their preferences for support
  • Actively support Clinical Governance at the service with the support of nursing colleagues and the group clinical Lead
  • Participate in the referral / admissions process and ensure that only service users who meet the agreed criteria and have secure funding, are admitted to the service
  • Oversee the health needs of residents are ensure that these are met by the appropriate personnel
  • Ensure that there are systems in place for the proper and safe administration and management of medicines
  • Maintain close links and good relationships with local community groups and representatives ensuring that the local community has a good understanding of the purpose and workings of the Service

Experience Required:

  • Experienced Registered Nurse (RMN/RGN) with a current valid NMC registration
  • First level RGN/RMN qualification
  • Knowledge of CQC outcomes framework
  • Experience of effective support planning and risk assessments
  • An understanding of the complex / medical needs and problems that confront those with a history of problematic substance misuse
  • Good organisational skills and the ability support the Manager in organising and planning high quality service delivery to a CQC registered standard.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for social care and treatment
  • Knowledge of relevant NICE and DoH guidance and protocols
