Job overview

Do you want to help someone get back on their feet? Are you able to work with diverse and sometimes challenging clients? Have you got the patience, the persistence, and the resilience to connect with these vulnerable adults?

If yes, then we would really like to hear from you and from those who have worked in more generic care environments (domiciliary care, care homes) but wish to acquire some mental health experience.

Penrose Community Care & Support (PCCS) is a CQC registered service specialising in working with those living with mental ill-health who also have additional support to maintain independence.

These clients will require additional encouragement for their personal care within their homes but also escorting to appointments and other outreach services. Our clients are all different, many of them may have a mental health diagnosis; physical or sensory disabilities; some may have a history of substance abuse; and some may have been involved in the criminal justice system. All of them need our help to lead good, happy, productive lives.

About the role:

PCCS are recruiting for Floating Care and Support Workers to join our outreach services across London but focused in Brent, Lambeth and Lewisham. This position will involve a degree of personal care, environmental support, and some outreach services. It will suit both individuals with a broad experience working in a residential or community setting but also those new to the system who are looking for their first step into social care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide care to vulnerable adults with mental health issues or other complex needs, including personal care and domestic help.
  • To assist service users to engage with the community and access community services.
  • To encourage independence and improve the skill sets of service users.
  • To build professional relationships with service users and develop unique approaches to achieve person centred care.
  • Involve service users as much as possible in exercising choice, control and timing of their support.
  • Assist service users to attend appointments, training courses and expand on any other interests they might have.
  • To document the care delivered in a professional and sensitive manner

Experience Required:

  • Experience of working in partnership with service users, care managers and significant others
  • Experience in working within a regulatory framework
  • Ability to work independently with clients who may display behaviour that challenges and/or mental health diagnosis.
  • Must be willing and able to perform personal care activities
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • A working knowledge of DOLS, Whistleblowing and CQC guidelines regarding consent and reporting abuse.
  • An NVQ/QCF Level 2 or above in Health and Social Care and/or minimum of 12 months proven experience working with vulnerable adults in a Support role.
  • Previous experience with users with substance abuse issues, learning difficulties, autism or complex mental health needs (Desirable)
