Connects Spring Fayre

Our Friday Connects group is an active social group and more and club members and volunteers have the chance to move inside and outside as they wish to get involved.

They ran their first Spring Fayre along with the Strathmore Methodist Church and the Brownies in the Church Hall in Luton.

The Fayre was held on Saturday April 2nd and was a fundraising event but more importantly than that a chance to work together as part of a Community Team and to provide a welcoming space to meet on a weekend.

The church was responsible for the refreshments and the Brownies a variety of games and their own homemade crafts. Admission was free.

The group received many donations from club members, family, friends, and the wider Community.

There was a Bric-a-Brac Stall, books, toys, clothes and accessories and a ‘guess the name of the Rabbit’ stall.

There was also a wonderful array of beautiful hand crocheted items which had been lovingly made by Liz who is a member of the Roots Team.

Sally also brought a beautiful selection of plants grown at our Roots to Success project.

They raised £235.00 and the group decided that they would donate half to Liz’ volunteering trip to Poland to support the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis. This will help her to help the children fleeing war by running activities and using puppetry.

Having many animal lovers amongst the group, they decided that the other half of the proceeds would go towards animal rescue in the Ukraine. Liz will be donating it to ROLA a Ukrainian Animal charity.

There are still many very sellable items which have been stored in various locations including sheds and garages and the group plans to work together again to hold a Car Boot Sale.

The Fayre took a great deal of planning, preparation and setting up but it was well worth it.

Well done to all who played a part and donated their time and effort to making it such a success – and so much fun.
