Service User Integration
At the Social Interest Group, we have a strategic objective to ensure service user integration and empowerment is embedded in all we do.
At an individual level, we extend involvement and empowerment opportunities to service users across the Social Interest Group. We run our own training programme for service users to gain core life skills, which support their move on from our services. This programme is co-produced with our service users to ensure the training is relevant to their needs. We also encourage all our service users to participate in educational programmes externally.
In terms of creative and social activities, our service users create a magazine which is distributed widely amongst our services and to many external organisations. We have a lively activities programme including sport, theatre performances, conferences and trips.
At service level, we support service users to engage in the running of their services, including having a voice about how their service operates. In practice, there are many ways in which we listen to our service users and adapt the way we work at service level. This includes the valuable work of our service user councils, suggestions from service user reps and champions, feedback provided on satisfaction surveys and input from service users who sit on recruitment panels.
At organisational level, we actively promote opportunities for service users to have their voice heard and contribute to decisions, policies and procedures at the Social Interest Group. Our founder members, Equinox Care and Penrose Options, voted to keep their service user councils as separate councils upon joining the Social Interest Group. They decided to come together once a quarter, to meet as a group council; this ensures their autonomy, as well as collaboration in the interests of all service users across the group.
In the wider world, we encourage service users to have their say about local and national issues which affect their lives, including the health and social care agenda.
The end goal is always the same with all of our service user integration and empowerment activities. We aim to support all our service users to move on effectively from our services back into their community.
